milk chocolate frosting

This milk chocolate frosting recipe is a little different from most. Where most call for cocoa powder or baking chocolate, I used regular old candy bar chocolate. It started out as an experiment but it actually turned out to be pretty dang amazing.

For Milk Chocolate Frosting you’ll need:

  • 2 bars of chocolate (about 3 oz)
  • 3 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream

First you’ll want to melt the chocolate. I recommend putting the chocolate in a glass bowl over boiling water and slowly stirring, but you can also microwave it if you add a little bit of butter in and stir it about every 10-15 seconds. The boiling water method is much more mistake-proof.

Let the chocolate cool a bit but not harden. Put it in a bowl with your softened butter and begin stirring until its well incorporated and the butter forms soft peaks.  Then begin adding in your powdered sugar, ½ cup at a time.  If it starts to get difficult to stir, add in a tablespoon of heavy cream.

Continue until you’ve mixed all the ingredients together, and serve. You can use it on cupcakes, in graham cracker sandwiches or to ice the edges of your cup on a milkshake.
